For its needs, the cellar takes over and buys grapes from just over 100 Bela krajina winegrowers, who are cooperative members and subcontractors. We are convinced that quality is born in the vineyard, so all hand-picked grapes go into processing in excellent condition and ensure quality processing and wine production. In the cellar we pay a lot of attention to the wine. We monitor maturation and, above all, give it enough time to calm down, clear up and mature.
Metlika Wine Cellar is a prominent member of the group of the highest quality Slovenian and European wine producers with a clearly recognizable identity and brands that reflect the knowledge, effort and desire of employees to create the best that modern production technology can offer together with extraordinary natural resources and centuries-old tradition.
In Bela krajina, about 350 hectares of vineyards are planted on the sunny slopes of Gorjanci, which stretch at an altitude of 600 to 1200 feet. KZ Metlika has 26 hectares of new vineyards of its own with the best location on the Vinomerski slopes and in Vidošiči around the famous church of Sv. Anne.
More than a hundred years ago, in 1909, our ancestors founded the first Wine Cooperative in Metlika. Today, the Metlika Wine Cellar is one of the most important pillars of the Metlika Agricultural Cooperative. The cellar, built in 1958, with its unique tunnel-type form, is a real feast for the eyes and a place for pleasant wine pampering. In the 108-meter-long tunnel-type wine cellar, we can store 800,000 gallons of wine. The annual wine production is about 130,000 gallons
