The first vines were planted on their hills in the 12 century. In that time the Chartusian monks (Žička kartuzija) came from France to their aria and planted there the first vines of Pinot noir and Chardonnay. So, 800 years ago they already knew how ideal these hills were for the production of Pinot Noir grapes.
